PSL Fellow in the economics of education

Summary

PSL University is opening a short-term position for a Fellow in Economics of education for a maximum of 4 years, starting September 1, 2024. The Fellow will teach one course (30h of lecture) per semester within the CPES Multidisciplinary Undergraduate degree developed in partnership with the Lycée Henri iv. The Fellow must be able to adapt to a wide audience and teach in both French and English. The Fellow will also be expected to develop original research in economics of education, and to publish the results of his or her work in leading international journals. Research will be conducted at the LEDa, the research center in economics of the University Paris Dauphine-PSL. The position may serve as preparation for an application to a French institutional research center (such as CNRS, IRD or University) within or at the end of the 4 years.

 

Skills required.

Candidates must hold a doctorate in economics, specifically in applied microeconomics, with a proven interest in the evaluation of public policies in the field of education, attested by publications. An ability to interact with cognitive sciences will be considered an additional asset. In addition, the candidate must have a well-established research and publication record, evidenced by at least one publication in an international peer-reviewed journal of high scientific standing. The successful candidate must meet the criteria to compete for national and international funding, and for French institutional research positions (CNRS or IRD).

The candidate must be able to demonstrate a good command of English and French to work and teach in French or English (the minimum level is C1 / C2 or native language for both English and French).

Candidates must also have teaching experience and be able to demonstrate a taste for pedagogical innovation.


 

Job description

Main tasks

  • Research mission: The person recruited will develop his/her own research in economics of education within the LEDa and will contribute to the development and animation of research within LEDa and PSL (presentation of his/her work, co-organization of seminars, publications).

  • Teaching duties: Set up one course per semester in economics of education at the CPES and supervise students' progress.

Secondary tasks

  • Ensure individualized student follow-up;

  • Participate in various pedagogical activities (student evaluation, internship and dissertation supervision, participation in juries, etc.).

  • Use Moodle and Teams as software for disseminating teaching aids and exchanging information (PSL offers training in these programs if required).


 

Description of the recruiting department

The person recruited will carry out his/her research within the LEDa (https://leda.dauphine.fr/). The LEDa is the economics department of the Université Paris Dauphine-PSL, associated with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Institute for Research in Development (IRD). The successful candidate will be able to interact with LEDa researchers specializing in public policy evaluation (including education policy) and applied microeconomics more broadly. The successful candidate will also be able to interact with researchers from other PSL research centers, in particular the ENS cognitive science department within PSL, to develop research combining economics of education and cognitive science.

The person recruited will carry out his/her research activities at the LEDa, located at Porte Dauphine (Paris 16th arrondissement). Teaching will take place at various sites of the Université Paris Sciences et Lettres and its partners, including the Lycée Henri iv (Paris 5th arrondissement).


 

Terms and conditions of employment

Remuneration will be based on seniority and experience, up to 3,400 euros gross per month (40,800 euros gross per year). The employment is a fixed-term contract for a maximum of 4 years.
